Nia Griffith is the Member of Parliament for Llanelli and has been Labour’s Shadow Secretary of State for Defence since October 2016.

First elected in 2005, Ms Griffith served as Parliamentary Private Secretary to Harriet Harman MP and supported her work as Leader of the House of Commons and Acting Leader of the Labour Party. Since 2010 Nia has been part of Labour’s Shadow front bench team in a range of roles, including as Shadow Secretary of State for Wales.

Before becoming an MP, Nia worked for some twenty years in local comprehensive schools, as a foreign language teacher and schools’ inspector.
