Over a long period, UK productivity has seriously lagged behind that of our leading international competitors. Many reasons have been advanced including lack of investment, regional imbalances, lack of skills, and the offshoring of high-productivity jobs. Whatever the reasons, low productivity is a heavy drag on the UK economy and standards of living. The Labour party has a set of policies aimed at changing how the UK economy operates in order to increase productivity and provide high quality, well-paid jobs. Anneliese Dodds, Shadow Treasury Minister, will outline these policies and lead a discussion of their practical implications.
